Education & Support

Valley Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing Brownsville, TX and the surrounding community with the education and support services they need to follow a healthy and active lifestyle. We’ve partnered with national organizations to bring a variety of educational programs into the hospital for the benefit of patients and their family.

The support services at Valley Regional help patients prepare for childbirth and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes. Continue reading to learn more about the educational programs available at our hospital.

Diabetes Management Program

Our Diabetes Education Program is AADE certified (American Association of Diabetes Educators) and is a free service we offer to all patients. We provide comprehensive services and support groups to help people with type 1, type 2 or gestational diabetes better manage their health. Our diabetes programs include:

  • Inpatient Diabetes Education
  • Outpatient Diabetes Clinic
  • Diabetes Education in School
  • Diabetes & Pregnancy Counseling

Women & Children

Our educational services include childbirth classes, breastfeeding classes, infant CPR and the Big Brother/Big Sister preparation class. These programs are for expectant parents, their partners and their children.

Thyroid Cancer Support Group

This group is open to patients, survivors and their friends and family members as a way to share their experiences, insights and stories dealing with thyroid cancer.

When: 1st Monday of the month
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Alzheimer’s Association Support Group

This group provides support to Alzheimer’s disease caregivers and friends and family members of persons with dementia.  

When: 3rd Wednesday of the month
