At Valley Regional Medical Center, we tailor our therapy services to each patient’s specific rehabilitation goals. Our team of experienced physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapists treat you like family while providing compassionate guidance for all your rehab and therapeutic needs.

Our focus is on getting patients back to their normal, everyday activities after an injury, surgery, illness or medical emergency. For instance, after a stroke, rehabilitation therapy can help patients regain function or adapt to changes as part of their overall recovery. Other common uses for therapy services include:

  • Orthopedic Injury or joint replacement
  • Evaluation of balance or reason for frequent falls
  • Pain management for arthritis or inflammation
  • Back and spine rehabilitation
  • Peripheral nerve injuries and nerve impingement
  • Crush injuries / fractures
  • Caregiver training in how to help patients without self-injury

All licensed therapists are Basic Cardiovascular Life Support (BCLS).

Complete Patient Evaluation

Our comprehensive patient evaluation helps our doctors and therapists create an individualized treatment plan for each patient. A full patient evaluation includes gathering a patient’s:

  • Past history
  • Current health issues and status
  • Goals – what does the patient hope to achieve from therapy?

From this in-depth conversation with the patient and review with physicians, the patient’s therapy care plan is created.

Physical Therapy (PT)

Physical therapy (also called physiotherapy) involves the evaluation and treatment of problems with the body’s ability to move or function. For instance, after a knee replacement procedure, physical therapy gets patients back up on their feet and walking as soon as possible.

The PTs at Valley Regional Medical Center use a variety of treatment techniques when creating a care plan for each patient. These may include:

  • Massage
  • Exercise
  • Manipulation
  • Heat therapy or ice therapy
  • Ultrasound
  • Electric Stimulation
  • Patient Education

PTs also provide specialized wound care, including diabetic wound care, for patients with severe slow to heal wounds. The focus of this care is on getting enough oxygen to damaged tissues for healing to occur.

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Occupational therapy is focused on helping patients achieve the activities that are part of their daily lives (called Activities of Daily Living). For example, a patient recovering from a stroke may need to relearn how to brush their teeth or hair.

The OTs at Valley Regional Medical Center work closely with the rest of the therapy team to develop a personalized therapy plan to help patients achieve their goals.

Speech Therapy (also called Speech-Language Pathology)

Our speech therapists (SLPs) help people recover their language skills after a health event such as a stroke or brain injury. They also assess patients hospitalized for a wide range of issues to determine how well they are eating and swallowing.
