Valley Regional Medical Center Named Top Performer by The Joint Commission 2013 List Draws Data from More Than 3,000 Hospitals Nationwide

Brownsville, Texas, November 6, 2013 – Valley Regional Medical Center, an HCA Affiliated Hospital, has been named one of the nation's Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Valley Regional Medical Center received this recognition for the second year in a row for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.

“This recognition is a validation of the exceptional care that our physicians and staff have continually provided to our patients and their families,” said Susan Andrews, CEO of Valley Regional Medical Center. “We are honored to be recognized.”

Hospitals on The Joint Commission’s Top Performer list met the following criteria: Each hospital achieved performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that included all the accountability data for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.  Hospitals also met a 95 percent performance threshold for every accountability measure for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, excluding measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.

The data was drawn from more than 3,000 Joint-Commission Accredited hospitals reporting core measurement performance measures for 2012. Eighty percent of HCA hospitals are on The Joint Commission’s list of 1,099 which is the top one-third of all TJC hospitals reporting core measure performance data for 2012.

“Improving patient outcomes and providing quality care remains our key focus as we serve the Rio Grande Valley ,” said Elizabeth Serrao, Quality Director at Valley Regional Medical Center. “We will continue our work to sustain clinical excellence.”
