The staff at Valley Regional Medical Center works as a team to ensure we invest back into the community we serve. We are proud to be involved with numerous community organizations that enhance the Rio Grande Valley.

Go Red for Women

Valley Regional Medical Center has been the proud presenting sponsor for the annual Go Red for Women Dinner since its inception almost thirteen years ago when it was first called “Women in Heart”. Our employees “kick off” this annual event with the National Wear Red Day, the first Friday in February.

Heart disease is one of the Rio Grande Valley’s most pressing healthcare challenges with approximately 40% of all deaths being attributed to heart disease. The Go Red for Women Dinner event represents one of the many efforts of the American Heart Association to raise donations in order to continue the fight against heart disease and stroke in women. The American Heart Association supports research in Texas.

Valley Regional Medical Center is proud to be the presenting sponsor for this annual event. Taking care of your heart is more important than you might know. Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of American women — and of men. But the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. Go Red for Women empowers women with knowledge and tools so they can take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke and protect their health. No matter what your age or where you feel you are in your life, the best time to take action and get healthy is always right now. Events such as this Go Red for Women Dinner, Go Red for Women National Awareness Day and the American Heart Walk help foster community awareness in the prevention of heart disease and stroke. We can all help save lives from heart disease here in our community.

United Way

Every day, Valley Regional Medical Center employees work to make a difference in the lives of their patients, but did you know they also contribute their time and dollars to the community as well? Through the Valley Regional Medical Center United Way Campaign, employees make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

This year Valley Regional Medical Center’s successful campaign for United Way of Southern Cameron County was led by Frankie Acevedo with the generous support of David Handley, VRMC CEO. Together they kicked off the hospital’s campaign by sending 35 people, directors and selected champions, on a tour of programs to learn about the impact United Way has in our community. Each hospital department agreed to put together a gift basket to be entered into a little friendly competition. Each basket was displayed and raffle tickets were sold for each basket. The department that sold the most raffle tickets won the competition. VRMC employees pledged a total of $74,538 towards the workplace campaign and raised $10,019 in basket raffle sales!

Across the country, the United Way system includes 1,350 community-based organizations, which are governed by local volunteers. The Southern Cameron County chapter recently celebrated its 55th anniversary in the community. The hard work and contributions of the Valley Regional employees made the hospital the third largest company campaign in the area for the fifth year in a row. With the motto, “Live United,” Valley Regional employees are committed to making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in the community.
