The Diabetes Management Center at Valley Regional Medical Center provides self-management and education support services to help our community manage type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, as well as prediabetes, and obesity. Our diabetes clinic and self-management program are completely free to our patients and are accredited by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists.
Our diabetes clinic is led by our care team of certified diabetes educators, nutritionists and nurse practitioners who work closely to develop an educational plan to meet your needs.

Diabetes is one of the main health issues in south Texas, affecting almost 76,000 people in the Rio Grande Valley, and three in five of those people will need hospital care or emergency services.
At Valley Regional Medical Center, education plays an important role in reducing hospitalizations and emergency room visits for people with diabetes. From helping you make sense of your numbers to teaching you about insulin preparation and finding a meal plan that works best for you, our team focuses on giving you the information you need to better manage your health.
The Diabetes Management Center provides many free services, including:
- Blood pressure checks
- Foot screenings
- Glucose screenings
- Hemoglobin A1C tests
- Meal planning, including one-on-one counseling with a nutritionist and/or nurse practitioner
