Valley Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, has been recognized with a Healthgrades Hip Fracture Treatment Five-Star Rating, reflecting the organization’s commitment to delivering high-quality, coordinated care that supports faster recovery and improved mobility for patients.

A key component of this achievement is the hospital’s multidisciplinary hip fracture task force, which brings together emergency services, cardiology, anesthesia, surgical teams and rehabilitation specialists to streamline care from admission through recovery and help reduce delays to surgery.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 300,000 older adults are hospitalized for hip fractures each year in the United States, most often as the result of a fall. Timely surgical intervention is widely recognized as a critical factor in reducing complications and supporting recovery, particularly among seniors.

“To support timely, coordinated care, we’ve implemented a hip fracture task force that connects every stage of the patient journey,” said Dr. William A. Tucker, chief of surgery at Valley Regional Medical Center. “With this collaborative approach, we aim for at least 70% of patients to receive surgery within 24 hours—helping improve recovery and mobility.”

“This is truly a team effort—from the moment a patient arrives in the ED through rehabilitation,” said Kim Vergara, chief nursing officer at Valley Regional Medical Center. “Standardizing our approach helps us move quickly while maintaining high-quality, patient-centered care.”

By aligning clinical teams and standardizing protocols, Valley Regional Medical Center is advancing care delivery to better meet the needs of patients experiencing hip fractures and other orthopedic injuries.

Across HCA Healthcare, physicians and care teams performed more than 28,000 hip replacements and 22,000 hip fracture repairs in 2024, underscoring the scale and expertise of the system in helping patients regain mobility and independence.

Valley Regional Medical Center will continue to build on this momentum by advancing best practices, strengthening care coordination and expanding initiatives that improve patient outcomes.
