Neurological care in Cameron County
When you're in need of expert neurological care in Cameron County, you don’t need to travel far. At Valley Regional Medical Center, we are committed to providing prompt and effective treatment in a compassionate environment.
We are certified as an advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, which recognizes our ability to diagnose and treat stroke and TIA symptoms quickly and effectively. We are also the recipient of the Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Achievement award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus from the American Heart Association.
Our team consists of double-board certified neurologists, neurosurgeons, endovascular neurosurgeons, critical care intensivists, nurse practitioners and rehabilitation therapists. Using the latest technological advancements, our specialists work together to diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases and disorders, including aneurysms, brain cancer and tumors, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, spine injuries and stroke.
As part of our commitment to offering advanced diagnostic and treatment services, we offer biplane imaging technology. This type of interventional radiology captures highly detailed 3D images of blood vessels leading to the brain and deep within the brain. It also details the relationship of blood vessels to the tissues in the head and neck.
From initial diagnosis through rehabilitation, our neuroendovascular care team at Valley Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in Brownsville to offer 24/7, elevated neuroendovascular services for a spectrum of conditions that affect the brain, spine and nervous system. Our full range of services include:
Emergency stroke care
Our stroke neuro-interventional team knows that rapid diagnosis and treatment is essential. Our neurologists and stroke-certified nurses provide 24/7 emergency care, offering fast treatment for stroke and TIA patients. In addition, we work together with local emergency medical services (EMS) providers to start preparing for your arrival while you are in transit, saving precious time and brain function.
Our physicians use advanced 3-D “road mapping” of the brain with high-resolution images to quickly determine the type of stroke and provide care. Treatment may include a combination of medications, surgery and neuroendovascular procedures, including mechanical thrombectomy or thrombolysis for ischemic strokes and clipping or endovascular coiling for aneurysms.
Neurosurgery
Whenever possible, our neurosurgeons use minimally-invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery. Outfitted with advanced imaging technology, we're able to perform complex procedures with delicate, minimally invasive techniques, resulting in faster recovery and shorter hospital stay. Some of the neurosurgery procedures we provide are spinal fusions, disc replacement, craniotomies, embolization, carotid artery stenting, cerebral aneurysm coiling and peripheral nerve surgery.
Neurological rehabilitation
After a neurological event such as stroke, patients may have a range of physical or mental impairments to cope with. Our experienced team of neurologists and therapists create an individualized rehabilitation plan to help patients regain function or return to daily activities as soon as possible. Our services include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
